Why write a thesis?

1. Great research experience for those who might be looking into the PhD route, (some call it a mini dissertation)
2. May be a requirement to graduate Summa Cum Laude (depending on your major)

What is a Thesis:

A senior thesis is an original research project in which you design an experiment, collect data and discuss findings while under the supervision of a faculty member. Usually, this is the next step following a few semesters of research in a faculty member’s laboratory. Work in a research laboratory for multiple semesters;

• learn techniques
• establish relationships with mentors.

Create a thesis committee:

• Thesis Chair
  
  • any faculty in Psychology department
• 2 other faculty members:
  
  • Psychologist w/ research focus
  • Additional member

03.

• Submit your project for IRB Approval
• Enroll in PSY4970
  
  • Names of Thesis Committee​
  • IRB Approval#
  • Written Thesis Proposal (7 pages double spaced)

04.

• Submit Registration Form

05.

Thesis Defense

• Schedule a meeting
• Distribute formal written thesis a week prior
• 15 minute oral powerpoint presentation summarizing your project and findings
• Answer questions from your committee
• If approved, your thesis defense form will be signed and awarded high or highest honors
